President- Nina Garlie
Vice President- Bethany Berger
Treasurer- Lisa Painter
Secretary- Kitty Ellingboe
Board members- Jane Baetz, Bill Graham and Judy Gaudes
Moved by Judy Gaudes and seconded by Bethany Berger to accept the nominations. All voted yes.
2010 Specialty Show Committee Reports:
Show Chairs Nina and Judy:
1. Nina sent a letter to Ft. Dearborn Club giving them the required ok to hold a specialty in our area. Kitty received a letter from the AKC stating that our application is pending the receipt of an updated officer list. Nina will send it in. Nina submitted all other information required to gain approval for our specialty.
2. Jane has been looking into a new banner with our new club logo. She wants to try Norton Signs which wants $90 for a 4x8 foot banner. It can be returned if not satisfactory. Kitty moved and Judy seconded the spending of up to $100 to order the banner. All voted yes.
3. Jane has also been looking into vinyl stickers with the new logo to put over our wooden placement figures and trophy figure. The final cost and company selected will be decided later. Nina will re-paint the figures and prepare them for the new stickers.
Judges: The judges for the specialty will be Francesco La Marca conformation and Kylie Hirschy-Seivert for Jr. Handler.
Stewards: Sue reported that she has 2 stewards from Waukesha Kennel Club. One is Marylou Mader and another person not yet named.
Prize and Trophy:
Bethany said that all the prizes were purchased and in the process of being engraved.
The towels we discussed as possible prizes for 1st through 4th place would cost from $500 to $700 to purchase and embroider. The club decided that was too much expense.
A discussion was held about purchasing dog toys instead and where to get the best prices.
Bethany showed color samples for the three Award of Merit rosettes and asked for suggestions on the colors. It will most likely be a combination of green and purple.
Advertising:
Kitty placed a 1/2 page ad in the January issue of Tally Ho. The club members discussed placement of a joint ad with the Ft. Dearborn club in the upcoming issues, and Nina said she would contact the club about how to handle the cost, etc. Most agreed the ads should be in the May/June and July/August issues of Tally Ho. Nina moved and Ken seconded spending at least $60 for the Tally Ho specialty ads. That would be $30 per ad if we split the cost with Ft. Dearborn.
Hospitality:
Sue thinks a breakfast would be a good idea including light items such as yogurt, muffins, and croissants. Nina moved and Kitty seconded the spending of $200 for the breakfast food. It was also decided to make lunch available through the Olympia staff for 2 hours. If at least $300 of food is sold, then our club won't have to pay the $50 per hour fee for not meeting that minimum amount. However, the club voted to spend $100 to offer concessions at lunchtime, if needed.
2010 Nationals:
Coordinators:
1. Jane said things were coming together pretty well, but lots of strings need to be tied. BHCA will hold a meeting at the Olympia April 17 and 18 at which time its officers need reports from all Nationals committees. She said the website for the Nationals is already up and has lots of info on it. There is a link to it from our club site as well. She said any business who donates items to the event will get a free ad on the site for one year thanking them for their gift.
2. Nina reported that contracts have been signed for field trials and tracking. The variable surface contract is pending; perhaps at the Waukesha Expo grounds. Anyone who wants to help with these events is welcome.
3. Bethany is working on patches for the 75th anniversary. The 350 gift bags should also include things like dog cookies possibly form Petlicious, and coupons for the doggie spa. She also asked for a vote to donate money for the class prizes at Nationals. Nina moved and Bill seconded the spending of not more than $150 for the prizes. Bethany will see which ones are available at this point.
Hospitality: Mike Garlie said he made arrangements for the margarita machine and coffee makers. He said most events he is planning will have to work around the show events. They include such things as comedy shows, a milking cow "fake", cream puff eating contest, Harley activities and photo ops which should probably go on a disc.
Other clubs such as Twin Cities, Michigan and Lincolnland will be asked to host breakfasts for each of the mornings that the specialty clubs won't be serving them. Another suggestion was a golf outing.
Grounds: Bill said there was more involved in grounds care than he realized. There is a possibility of soliciting area 4H clubs to help out. He will also look into how to control the placement of xpens and the possibility of setting up a doggie area with shavings near the show doors so exhibitors can let their dogs out easily before going into the rings.
Treasurer: Lisa reported that the club has $3000 at its disposal to start the Nationals process.
Raffle: Tracy said she is having the best luck soliciting donations to raffle if she approaches businesses and individuals in person. Some suggestions to her were to ask older BHCA members to donate some of their treasures, and to write letters to rescue groups asking them for gift baskets. She has also received donations of handling sessions, dog beds, toys, photo sessions, and supplies like collars and brushes.
Agility: Ken said the agility people will do a raffle of their own. He also talked about creating a wing jump apparatus to raffle that would include the 75th anniversary logo. He will offer to make and sell custom wing jumps that will be used at Nationals. The club thought this was a great idea.
Check out: Judy said that Olympia does its own monitoring of rooms for damage each day, and we shouldn't need any volunteers for this duty. She said she would meet with the Olympia staff each day to see what else needs to be done about check out.
Vendors: Several members have received requests from rescue groups and others wanting to set up booths to benefit rescue. All these requests should be referred to Cheryl Cieslinski.
Other business:
Combined Specialty: A discussion was held regarding maintaining the club's membership in Combined for 2010. It was decided that rather than attend the meetings this year, the club would pay the $125 fee in 2011 to rejoin. Moved by Sue and seconded by Jane to spend the $125 fee for 2011. All voted yes.
BBHC shirt order: A discussion was held about who would be chosen to create the t-shirts, polos, hats, etc. with our new club logo. Bethany already has approval to spend $50 for setup with a company she's been working with. Geiger will be a second option if need be.
Chicagoland Hound Club will host show its annual show in November.
Waukesha Kennel Club is looking for judge suggestions for its 2011 show. It was recommended by Nina that we do make suggestions because we may be able to use the same judges at our 2011 specialty. Bill recommended that we use a provisional judge.
Entry support for WKC, Burlington and Chicagoland Hound shows.
Moved by Sue and seconded by Ken to Give $100 to support the entry for the Waukesha show, and $25 each for the Burlington and Chicagoland shows.
Bill brought up the Wisconsin State Fair dog show and display on August 9. He and a few other members will bring dogs to the show, and this will serve to meet a pet education requirement by the AKC for our own specialty shows.
Jane described a letter from the Department of Agriculture looking for a volunteer to help with new dog legislation enforcement. It was decided not to volunteer any names from our club.
Nina will check the show calendar and decide on a date and location for a February board meeting and March membership meeting. Jane also requested that all Nationals committee chairs meet once a month from now until the show.
The meeting was adjourned at 345pm.
