Sandy Pike Writes:
Yes, this is the sad news , something we knew has been lurking around the corner, the time I have been dreading, but knew was coming.
Bella has gone on ahead......
This morning she had a seizure - she had been having one every few weeks. But she just didn't come out of it today. The vet called in a prescription, of which she received 2 doses, plus additional seizure meds. But she never really cleared or relaxed. All day was a struggle, but I wanted to give the meds a chance.
By late afternoon, we were all in agreement it was time.
Bella would have been 15 in April. She was with us 10 1/2 years. She was a rescue dog, but not a BBR dog. I KNOW she knew she was loved - not only by us, but Bella never met someone she didn't win over.
She was popular at Bastille days, singing with the accordion player. She was a hit in the Twin Lakes parades, as well as the Muskego days Parade, entertaining the crowds with her song.
Those in the early years of Bassetfest will also recall her manning the gate. She was on the home page of BBR for some time as well.
She was a pretty dog - long velvet ears, short legs, and a long, round body. Her nose missed nothing.
She joins Bosco her mate, who always looked out for her. I think she has been a bit lonely these last 2 years without him.
She was tired, and ready. In many ways, we were too. She has been a handful to care for in the last 6 months - those old bladders can't make it through the night, and help was often needed standing and walking. Poor eyesight, not much hearing. But she gave herself lovingly, and so did we. The tail wagged until today.
Tonight we are spending a quiet evening, and tomorrow she will be laid to rest with the others in our pet cemetery.
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and concern. She had many friends.
Till we meet again old girl, aroooooooo.

Jane Writes:
We lost our old girl this month. at 15 1/2 years old she had no fight left when her kidney and liver failed. There isn't a person that has seen her that does not remember this grand old girl.

MAY THE SUN ALWASY SHINE ON MY SWEET GIRL.
Christina Writes:
Edward, Olde Fashion Cone of Silence is now Champion Olde Fashion Cone of Silence! Murd finished under Judy Webb for a 4 pt major in Denver at the Colorado Kennel Club Show. It was a bittersweet moment. Great joy at finishing our boy and some sadness that he is no longer a puppy.
We added another kid to our crew, Sunny, Showme's Classic Newport Sunrise came to us with the new year. He is an Expo grandson and a cousin to Edward. We're having fun with him and can't wait to bring them both to the specialty in July!
Sue Graham writes:
We took Busker and the girls to the Basset Hound Club of Central Indiana Specialty. Busker does not to travel without his sisters.
Anyway he got 1st in his class and best puppy. Defeating 5 other puppies. Busker presented himself well in the Puppy Hound Group, however he was defeated for a group placement by one of the many professional handlers in the Puppy group with a Foo-Foo dog!
Bill and I are going to London on Tuesday for a couple of weeks. We are planning on going to Cruffs this time so I am sure we will have allot to talk about when we see you all again.
Vickie Calabrizzi writes:
The Greater Minneapolis St. Paul Basset Hound Club is holding it's annual Specialty Friday June 6 at Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan, MN. We are offering Conformation, Obedience and Rally.
Duluth Kennel Club is having it's annual CERF clinic 3/16. Anyone interested (I know it's a long way, but if you happen to be in the area!) contact dmotley@rangenet.com
Duluth Kennel Club's All Breed show is in July--health clinics include Thyroid check, BAER (hearing); Cardiac; Patella, and we'll also be doing semen collections.
Chilli--Am/Can CH Sasquatch Frozen Asset spent last weekend being poked and prodded and put through his paces as an example during the K9 Structure & Movement Seminar. He thought everyone was there for him and had a great time, not to mention educating non-Basset people on what a proper Basset is.
That's it from Northern Wisconsin. It's cold. I haven't heard lately how things are with you? Are you in the house now? Take care!
Jason Steinbrenner writes:
We finally have a little news to share... Another
addition to the family. Derek William was born on Nov
29, 2007, there should be a picture attached. He
doesnt sleep through the night yet, but that doesnt
bother me too much, because I'm on 3rds :)
All was well until last month when my dad passed
away on the 26th of January. 53 yrs old is too
young.....Still trying to get used to it. Guess it
will take awhile.
Anyways, other than that, just waiting for winter to
end. Hope all is well with everyone else.
Lisa Painter Writes:
I had to go out to Anaheim for our big craft show and stayed through the weekend to spend some time with my dad’s family in L.A. My aunt got tickets to The Tonight Show and I was able to snap a pic with Russell Crowe (who happens to be one of my top three favorite actors). Pretty much made my trip.
On a more realistic note - my main man turned three last month. Happy Birthday Vinman! Plus my two ladies both turn a year older this month...DD is two now and Laney is going to be five...Happy Birthday Girlz!!
Ten Commandments for Pet Owners
1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want from me. Do not break my spirit with your temper, though I will always forgive you. Your patience and understanding will teach me more quickly those things you want me to learn.
3. Treat me kindly, my beloved friend, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for your kindness than mine. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. After all, you have your job, your friends, your entertainment. I have only you.
4. Speak to me often. Even if I don't understand all your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me. Your voice is the sweetest sound I ever hear, as you must know by my enthusiastic excitement when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
5. Please take me inside when it's cold and wet. I'm a domestic animal and no longer am accustomed to the bitter elements. I ask for little more than your gentle hands petting me.
6. Keep my bowl filled with clean water; I cannot tell you when I'm thirsty. Feed me good food so that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to be by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to share with you my life, for that is what I live for. However you treat me, I'll never forget it.
7. Don't hit me. Remember, I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I am not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I get old. You will grow old, too.
10. When I am very old, when I no longer enjoy good health, please do not make heroic efforts to keep me going. I am not having fun. Just see to it that my trusting life is taken gently. And be with me on that difficult journey when it is time to say "goodbye". Never say, "I can't bear to watch." Everything is easier for me when you are there. I will leave this earth knowing with my last breath that my fate was always safest in your hands. Remember - I love you.
Is Rover a Republican?

Political Dog Biscuit bags come in two different colors, with donkeys or elephants for your pet.Nobody's being left out of the political hoopla this primary season, and that includes your four-legged friends.
Petlane, the pet party service, has introduced doggie treats in the shape of elephants and donkeys.
But how do you know which treats your dogs favor?
According to Petlane, here are eight signs to tell you which side of the fence your furry companion sits on:
REPUBLICAN DOG:
• They bark at passing neighbors and traffic; home security is very important to them.
• Their ears perk up when Fox News comes on.
• They are a big spender at the local pet store.
• Strongly believe pet matrimony should occur only between two cats or two dogs.
• Believe in the second-amendment right to bare teeth and claws.
• Are for electric border fences around the yard.
• Want national ID tags for all pets.
• They advocate for the pet-tracking chip -- you can never have too much surveillance.
DEMOCRATIC DOG:
• They want universal veterinary care for all.
• They want their treats for free.
• They socialize with all breeds at the dog park.
• They prefer their owner uses biodegradable poop bags.
• Are very concerned with the rising cost of pet food.
• Have the young puppy and kitten vote locked.
• Want to end the war of dogs vs. cats once and for all.
• Think of Ralph Nader as the dog catcher.
The low-fat peanut butter and honey biscuits come in 6-ounce bags of either the donkey or the elephant, each for $8.99. You can order them at www.petlane.com or call 1-888-870-8324.
